Looking for Fall? Psst: It’s in Hampshire County.

Remember last summer’s Hampshire County Farm Crawl? (That was the farm-and-feast tour of the decade!) Well, add a wash of crisp mountain air, a blaze of gorgeous leaves, a bunch of tasty, harvesty things, and bam!—it’s our annual Fall Crawl. Mark your calendars for October 17, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. We certainly have.

Yes, there will be pumpkin things. Spices, breads, ice creams, and coffees. We wouldn’t have it any other way. You’ll also find the tastiest baked goods Hampshire County folk have to offer, and don’t forget apples and squash and fresh turkeys. All the flavors of autumn will be firing, just like the leaves on our gorgeous mountains.

Fall Crawl is the ultimate tour of this wonderful corner of West Virginia. Come and wander. Find things that smell good, taste good, and look great hanging on the wall or adorning your Thanksgiving table next month. Stop at farms and shops all over the county. Enjoy dining and adventure.

There’s no wrong way to crawl, so start with our Autumn in the Highlands 2026 Fall Crawl Guide. It’s a great tool to help you plan your route. Pick out your favorite stops or just follow your nose. Got handcrafted artisan items on the brain? Try the Hampshire Co-op. Maybe you want to caffeinate before you make a plan—that’s the Romney Brew Station’s bailiwick. If seasonal produce is your goal, try Spring Valley Farm Market and Barefoot Farm Market. Kids especially love a visit to see the fainting goats at Fainting Hills. Actually, everybody loves that.

When dinnertime rolls around, Redbird Cafe in Romney serves up locally sourced ingredients. Then, catch a little music at The River House in Capon Bridge along the beautiful Cacapon River.

More information, including our super handy-dandy flip booklet and a helpful interactive map, is available at hampshirehighlands.com. And don’t forget, you can ride the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad, catch a fish on the South Branch Potomac River, and canoe through The Trough. History buffs, there’s a ton to learn about our role in the Civil War here, too.

But wait, there’s more! If you’re coming from the big city, we’re centrally located, not too far from Washington, D.C., or Pittsburgh. We’ve got so many cozy places where you can settle in, get comfy by a campfire, and enjoy your weekend away.

If your crew is ready to spread out, settle in at Bear-ly Connected Cabin. Tucked into 10 private acres just outside Romney, this pet-friendly place is all about space. Three bedrooms, a big dining table, and a stone fireplace make it perfect for families or friend groups who want to cook and hang out. Soak in the hot tub, grill the meat, and check out the woods in every direction. It feels like you’re miles away from everything, but town—and a good sandwich—is just down the road.

Looking for something quirky and memorable? Have you glamped in a dome? This cozy, stargazing-ready hideaway is made for two, with a king bed, mountain views, and a private hot tub adjacent to a nature preserve. Evenings here are simple—firepit, barbeque, and chillax time. Leave your phone on silent and listen to the crickets do their thing.

If you’ve got a group—or just like a little history with your java—look up Charlotte’s Web Country Guest House. This 1890s farmhouse sits on 140 acres of rolling farmland and woodland, with plenty of room for whatever type of gathering you’re planning, be it family, friend, or spiritual. Mornings start in a sunny breakfast room, evenings end around the firepit, and somewhere in between there’s homemade bread waiting for you. We can’t promise any singing spiders, but the atmosphere is delightful.

Potomac Hills B&B offers a peaceful farm stay with a fresh fall breeze. Think meadow walks, crinkly leaves, and maybe a chat with the chickens as you help yourself to some morning organic eggs. The cottage itself is cozy and simple, with a porch that definitely needs some sittin’. At night, the stars come out in full force—we’d hate for you to miss them.

Get ready for one of the coolest health and fitness getaways ever. The Yodeling Yurt at Harmony River Ridge sits along the South Branch Potomac River and features a two-person hot tub, outdoor gym, and an optional professional massage experience. Not to mention a fishing hole so legendary you have to sign a nondisclosure agreement before we can show you where it is. Well, maybe that part is a stretch, but this stay should be the catch of the year.

Prefer something classic and easy? The Koolwink Motel has been welcoming travelers since the 1930s, and it shows—in all the best ways. Retro charm meets modern comfort, with clean, cozy rooms and a long family history behind every detail. It’s the kind of place where staying simple feels exactly right.

Nearby, the South Branch Inn offers a fresh, comfortable stay with deep local roots. Family-owned and recently remodeled, it’s a great home base for exploring the area—or just kicking back after a full day outside. Friendly faces and everything you need without any fuss.

We love Capon Springs & Farms, a historic resort that has helped generations of visitors unwind in spring-fed soaking baths, family-style meals, and just about every low-key activity you can think of—golf, fishing, hiking, reading on the porch, or doing absolutely nothing at all.

So, pull out a puffy vest, fire up your taste buds, and head our way. Find your fall.
