SUMMARY:25th (sort of) Annual North River Mills Day
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a relaxing day in this once-bustling town. In the early 1980’s we had our own post office, gas station,\ngrocery/general merchandise store. Granville Moreland’s auto repair garage had not been closed long. A few\nfamilies including the Millers, Crostons, Mrs. Cunningham, and others.\nThey are all gone. But once a year we celebrate the by-gone days of this 1700s village.\nUsual activities include: Old time or folk music jam on the porch. Join the folks clogging, flat foot or buck dancing.\nInterpretive “hay-less” ride around the hamlet.\nHistorical reenactors will likely be participating representing the French & Indian and Civil War.\nBlack smith, Rob Wolford and Josh Gochenour may be there to demonstrate the trade Rob’s granddad practiced in North River Mills “back in the day”.\nTed Kalvitis, the antique tractor guru, and his better half, Stephanie may coordinate an art show– “The Long Gallery” in the corn crib.\nContact us if you’d like to exhibit/share something.\nHopefully folks will exhibit steam engines and antique tractors, Model A and Model T Fords. .\nThe church ladies have refreshments (for a donation.) The adjacent quiet dirt lane is a nice place for a hike.\nRaven Rocks looms above the old hamlet. Docents may be available to lead hikes to the cold vents on Ice Mountain.\n(Probably 10 and 11 AM, so come early.) In 2012, Ice Mountain was declared a “National Natural Landmark.”\nC.C. Hall has an excellent site with info about the village: Click for Details.\nNorth River Mills was designated an “Historical Landmark”, and it is listed on the National Historic Register.\nIf you have old photos (people or structures of the village), we would love to scan them. Often old timers come\nto swap stories of North River Mills, giving the day a homecoming feel.\nSo if you are in the mood to enjoy a relaxing day, and maybe get a sense of a slower lifestyle,\n
